Rug Details? The Question I Get the Most on IG

When we bought our house, I was delighted to find out that underneath all of the carpet upstairs, was the original wood floor. Score. I knew we had to replace the carpet in the bedrooms anyway, but learning that there was wood floor underneath really opened up the options for our master bedroom. For the kids rooms, I decided to keep the rooms fully carpeted because of rambunctious boys who will inevitably be jumping off their beds with the loudest of thuds.

So that brings me to my main point- what is the rug in our master bedroom? It is the #1 most asked question on social media. A flurry of “rug details” pour into my inbox whenever I share it.

I learned that most carpet companies can custom-cut any of their carpets into a rug! The more I go down this rabbit hole of “custom furniture” the more I realize, it’s really not as insanely priced as I thought it would be (in comparison to quality brands like Pottery Barn).

My intention was to get custom-cut rugs from Annie Selke (because that’s what all the decor influencers do -probably because they get it at a significant discount/free). However, when I got the samples in the mail, and did the math, $25+ a square foot was absolutely outrageous and made me want to faint.

Back to the drawing board.

I had to go collect carpet samples for the boys’ room and since we had had good experience with Myers Carpet in Atlanta previously, I breezed over there to start my search. To my delight, that’s when I learned you can have nearly any carpet custom cut into an area rug and they will add the serging on the edges for significantly cheaper than Annie’s prices.

Now you’re over here like “okay this has been 200 words, can you please tell me what your rug is?!?”

Yes! If you want to replicate our rug exactly, it is called “Fonville Trellis” in the colorway Sand/ivory with serging that matches the sand color. The size of our rug is 13’ x 17’ custom cut for our room. It was $9.99 a square foot. It was also delivered in 2 weeks.

Even if I were to have gone the area rug route in any other shape (like an oushak or traditional wool rug suppliers), I would NEVER have found something as cheap as this for this large of a size rug. If you have wood floors, I highly recommend looking for natural fiber rugs. I explain here why your floors need to breathe.

If you’re on a home refresh journey, you’ll definitely want to bop over to your local carpet company and ask if they can custom cut an area rug for you! If you’re in the Atlanta area and you want to replicate this rug or use Myers as a resource, I’d love it if you told them Cynthia Ruff sent you. (I’m not affiliated with them in any shape or form but if we go to use them again, a girl can always hope they give me a little discount for recommending them to so many people.)
