Me: I’m going to announce my next pregnancy earlier than my first. Also Me: Announces at 24 weeks, again.
We are so grateful to be adding another little Ruff to our family. Yes, part of the reason we bought #ThisRuffHome was to accommodate the extra space we will need with another baby who – thanks to the time continuum that is having children- soon will also be running circles around us gleefully dropping cheerios wherever they see fit.
Once again, as soon as we passed the 10 week mark, I did the blood test to find out if we were having another boy or a little girl. Nursery plans had already been swirling in my head and after finding the below inspiration, I couldn’t wait to adapt it to whichever gender we ended up with.
Our Blank Slate Nursery
In the new nursery, there is a little alcove with two little windows situated above where the crib will slide in. My plans here are to build a half tester canopy but instead of the canopy being fixed, it will retract along a hidden track in the back to situate itself like a valence and two hanging curtains during waking hours. I figured this would be a fun way to hide a curtain rod while also keeping the room feeling sweet and youthful. We also had the rugs replaced with this dreamy off white and taupe micro herringbone. It’s the perfect micro texture for a soon-to-be busy baby.
We also plan on upgrading our first son’s crib to a convertible crib and moving the current crib into the new nursery. No need to reinvent the wheel on this one, it worked perfectly for him as a newborn and will do the same for the new baby. TBD if I decide to repaint the crib an off white instead of the stark white it currently is.
We also will need another glider. I’m actively seeking another Restoration Hardware Glider that we have in my son’s room on Facebook Marketplace. It is such a comfortable chair, I would love to have another for our new baby’s room. If I can’t find another one, then the plan is to get my son a new chair and recover our current one in a different fabric for a boy or girls room. Because both of the wallpaper’s I’ve chosen for either gender are very cream/ white heavy, I don’t want the chair to feel lost in the space and would like it to be an anchor of color to help pull you in.
Plans For Another Boy
My first thought “Lord help me if we have another boy back to back, the tornado of chaos that will envelop my house is going to keep me busy“. My second thought “I’m absolutely using this stripe wallpaper if it ends up being a boy.”
When I saw this creator’s nursery show up on my Instagram discover feed, I wanted to copy and paste the entire design. I was so smitten with the stripes and the contrast of the blue trim and knew it would help baby’s new room feel extra cozy during those long first days of contact naps.

Plans for a Little Girl
Meeting up with my friends with little girls the same age as our son, hearing how they just “sit and read books all day” with their daughters made me laugh at the dichotomy between boys and girls. Our son has NO CHILL. As soon as he learned to crawl, he tried to maim himself at every turn. If it weren’t for mothers, there’s no way the human race would survive. So in my heart of hearts, I was thinking “Please let me have a girl to sit and read books with…” Our son’s energy started to peak at the time of my morning sickness peaking- for 8 weeks we got very creative with bathroom playing- ha!
Also, weeks before we got pregnant I found this creator’s nursery and FELL IN LOVE with this wallpaper and to my delight, the wallpaper also came in dreamy green and pink colorway.
SOLD. Girl nursery picked out and completed. I’ve never ordered a swatch of wallpaper so fast.
So for a girl nursery I would do just that- green & pink floral wallpaper with a coordinating light sage green trim (Eddy by Farrow & Ball is actually a darn near perfect match). I’m not the biggest fan of pink-pink but I love the mauvey pink and soft coral red that’s featured in this wallpaper and would be choosing accents to match that.

The fun thing about designing a girl nursery is that I get to be a bit more over-the-top with textures and patterns. Scalloped mirrors, pleated lampshades, and mix n’ match florals that I personally would never consider in a boy nursery (mainly because those themes are cute for babies, but not so much a 4-year-old and want our children’s rooms to grow with them.) Plus, let’s be honest, the world caters to moms with girls and there is so much more shopping opportunity to pick from for girls.
Either way we go, I’m so excited to get started on the nursery. As I’m nearing the 3rd trimester and we’ve officially unboxed all of the main house (just don’t look in my basement or garage), I can’t wait to get the new room settled for our new little Ruff.
So what do you think, are we having a boy or girl?
